Self-Acceptance and Self-Forgiveness

Self Awareness and Self Forgiveness are central to your overall well-being.

But it’s a hard venture.

Self-Acceptance means, in part, the awareness that you’re capable of not only mistakes but really, really stupid mistakes.

Self-Forgiveness, building on Self-Acceptance, is the capacity to treat yourself with compassion when you eventually make those mistakes.

It’s easier and sounds right and even justified to beat yourself up when you realize you made a mistake that was selfish, idiotic, arrogant or any kind of adjective that you might want to use. It’s, however, a sort of pride to remain with this guilt and shame. It’s believing that you are above mistakes and in the realm of gods.

Ask for forgiveness when you have wronged. Forgive yourself by accepting that you’re capable of wrong. Then, learn the lessons. Be better. Get up and face the world.

And know that as you face the world with new lessons from your previous mistakes, you’ll be better at it.

And that you’ll make new mistakes.

And that’s alright.

Because you’re willing to learn, unlearn and relearn.

And that’s maturity.
